Home is where the builder is…it’s just usually not his home

If you’re a home builder or developer in today’s market, there’s a good chance that the last place you are right now is home. With the current market growth there’s also a more than decent chance that you and your team always have multiple projects on your plates and more coming through the door and that is fantastic. It means that you and your company are helping to drive development construction and literally build home buyer’s dreams.

It also means you’re probably insanely busy. And by all accounts, it appears that the growth won’t be slowing anytime soon. According to the December 2019 Industry Market Research Report, the remodeling industry is projected to continue growing over the next several years in part because of the economic factors that have increased disposable income1. And that doesn’t account for the new developments and new builds that are going up at a remarkable rate.

When building goes up, should design go down?

As the community drivers of our day, home builders and developers have a great opportunity to influence end-user experience with their projects. The problem is, that all too often so many projects are coming through the doors that good design falls by the wayside in an attempt to maintain project schedules. This leads to later increases in cost if details are missed and change orders are required. But unfortunately, that’s not even the worst part.

The client opportunity cost conundrum

The worst part is that not only is that poor design a missed opportunity to wow current clients, but there’s a good chance that it’s also costing you future clients.

We’ve all walked into a poorly designed space at one point or another. You know the ones— you get ready to move furniture in and realize there’s no conceivable way to put a cohesive grouping together, or that you can’t open that cupboard or oven without blocking an entire walkway, or the worst we’ve seen yet— that you have to walk up a set of stairs to reach the toilet. Not the bathroom. Just the toilet, because of how the plumbing got run. We wish we could say we were kidding.

Those spaces surely didn’t get planned that way intentionally, but rather they ended up that way because there was no one helping to coordinate and plan the interior drawings and details of the space and consequently the interior design suffers.

Future clients see these spaces and if your name is attached to them, there’s a really good chance that they’ll pass you over when looking for someone to help them with their next job in favor of someone who can offer them design excellence inside and out.

Build more. Worry Less. Save Time & Money. Gain Clients

The good news is, we meant what we said when we said that we believe good design is for everyone. And we meant what we said when we said that it doesn’t have to be exorbitantly expensive. So whether you’re working on a custom build or your next housing development, we’d love to lend you a hand.

You’re probably not building stairs to your toilet (and bless you for that), but oftentimes there are simple yet effective details that can be added to your interiors that make an immense difference both to the stress caused by your workload and to the quality of your overall finished product which will bring added value to the client.
